Earlier this year Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa announced that they were reconciling. Bryant’s wife Vanessa filed for divorce in 2011 citing irreconcilable differences after more than a decade of marriage, but the couple had a change of heart and decided to call off the divorce.
Managing partner Rick Jones and managing attorney Colin Amos sat down with Divorce for Men Radio to discuss divorce and reconciliation.During the conversation Rick posed the question “what advice do you give someone who has filed for divorce and then reconciled with their spouse?” Colin responded by stating that couples that have reconciled after filing for divorce should be focused on rebuilding their relationship, but should also be mindful of how their decisions could affect their situation if the reconciliation is not successful.
Colin commented that in his experience, divorce is not entered into lightly and a relationship is usually in significant distress by the time a client finds himself needing the help of a divorce attorney. This contributes to the difficulty of successfully reconciling. Colin has seen more than one divorce case filed, had the couple reconcile and drop the case, only to re-file for divorce down the road, at greater cost and increased emotional turmoil.
