Protection Orders

What is a protection order?

Protection Orders are designed to address domestic violence between family members, spouses, boyfriends and girlfriends.

The Temporary Protection Order is meant to stop violence from escalating or to prevent an assault. If you are living with the abuser, it gives police authority to remove the person from your home for a period of time. In granting the Protection Order, the court may order that the offender have no contact with the victim or children. A Temporary Protection Order usually lasts until a hearing can be held.

Goldberg Jones is experienced at obtaining Protection Orders for our clients who find themselves or their children the victim of abuse.

Unfortunately, it is also possible for Protection Orders to be misused. A falsely obtained Protection Order can have devastating effects regarding custody in a divorce.

Someone can be thrown out of their house and kept from their children for a period of time without ever having the opportunity to tell his side of the story. Goldberg Jones is very aware of potential harm incurred if a false or trumped up Protection Order goes unchallenged.
